Voices at the Table: A Senior-Led Food Security Initiative

Project focus area

We hope to address food insecurity with a community-led conversation- among both the older adults we serve and organizations that help to provide food resources.

Plan for action

Support innovative, community-led solutions to hunger & food insecurity by bringing together the people we serve to better understand solutions and create lasting impact

Demographics

Persons with low income

Evidence

Food delivery 2 times monthly to 15 older adults = 360 deliveries
250 additional meals received and donated to older adult households, thanks to Cultivate KC and United Way of Greater Kansas City
Soup drive successfully held by Shepherd's Center participants for donation to Turner Community Collaborative food pantry
Free (sponsored) lunch (always with a to-go meal as well) served monthly at our Adventures in Learning; 35/ month = more than 800 meals for older adults annually

Progress

  1. Set your project focus and actions, who you’ll engage, and how you’ll measure success—plus a simple timeline. Submit this setup to kick off.
  2. Share what’s done, what you’re learning, and any course corrections. Note any support needs to stay on track.
  3. Summarize outcomes and evidence (reach, partnerships, dollars), key insights and barriers, and recommended next steps. Completing this closes your Actioneer project.
