Latino Entrepreneurship Guide
A project from Heartland Together: Marshalltown
Project focus area
Goal: Host a diagnoses event with Latino existing businesses, prospective entrepreneurs, and home based businesses to identify barriers and hinderances to starting a business.
Plan for action
1. Identify audience through our existing networks. (Social media, phone calls, in-person)
2. Identify a comfortable gathering location like Midnight Ballroom to host.
3. Encourage food entrepreneurs to "Bring their best dish" for a pot luck style gathering.
4. Offer $10 reimbursement incentive for the first 10 businesses or entrepreneurs to help cover costs of training, licenses, or fees.
5. Facilitate a discussion around barriers with attendees, specifically noting unique challenges for the Latino community.
6. Develop a technical resource to help bridge those gaps based on provided feedback. The resource will be built in Spanish.
7. We will send the developed resource to all attendees, and will make it available at The Library, City Hall, Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce, local Latino owned stores, Churches, Marshalltown Community School District Welcome Center, and will explore other high traffic locations to place this information.
